Leonardo DiCaprio criticized amid wildfire disaster

Leonardo DiCaprio and model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti were spotted arriving in Mexico on a private jet, amid the ongoing wildfire disaster in Los Angeles, USA.

Leonardo DiCaprio is an environmental activist. The actor is often hailed as a “climate warrior” for his efforts to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions.

However, his decision to use a private plane to escape the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles has sparked a backlash, with many criticizing him for being “hypocritical” and “two-faced.”

Daily Mail captured the image of the 51-year-old actor getting off a private plane with his 26-year-old girlfriend. The trip was also attended by Leonardo’s father and stepmother.

A few days earlier, Leonardo DiCaprio’s $14 million mansion in Los Angeles also caught fire. According to sources, the actor was not home when the fire broke out.

The Los Angeles wildfire disaster is still ongoing. More than 100,000 people have been evacuated and several Hollywood stars such as Anthony Hopkins, Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton, Chris Pratt, Ben Affleck… have seen their beloved homes destroyed by the wildfire.

As the founder of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation since 1998, the Oscar-winning actor has raised more than $80 million for grants focused on climate change mitigation and reforestation. However, this action has made all of the actor’s environmental efforts for the past 27 years go up in smoke. According to environmental impact analysis, jet aircraft emit 37 times more carbon than commercial aircraft.

While Leonardo DiCaprio and Vittoria Ceretti have not commented on the evacuation, multiple reports suggest the couple prioritized safety as the fire neared their neighborhood.

Some questioned the gap between advocacy and actual action. “How can you preach about saving the planet while flying a private jet to escape a wildfire?” one netizen commented.

Others defended the actor, arguing that in times of crisis, survival often takes precedence. “No one should be expected to wait in a life-threatening situation just to avoid public criticism,” one supporter wrote.

This is not the first time Leonardo DiCaprio has been criticised for using a private jet. The actor has previously attended climate summits by private jet, sparking similar controversy.
